What learners and teachers say

At Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium, there are lots of cool GTA activities that go beyond the normal lessons. Whether you like music, sport, crafts or technology - there's something for everyone here. Not only can you study your favorite subjects in depth, you can also discover new hobbies.

The GTA offer Soundcheck is definitely one of the more special offers. Thanks to the GTA, we have been able to take part in numerous events. What we particularly like is the teamwork and cohesion. At big events, such as the Advent concert or cutter races against the AAG, you realize how exciting it is to work together on big projects in groups and to see how everyone can contribute in the end.

Joint class trips and projects such as ski camps and Curie week within a class level offer the opportunity to get to know each other better and thus strengthen the sense of community.

Because of the cool teachers and because this school is very nice."

Jakob

"We like being at Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium because our school is more than just a place to learn. Here we have the opportunity to get actively involved, implement our own ideas and make a difference together. Especially in the extended student council, we can help shape our school. It's a great feeling when our ideas are listened to and we realize that we can really make a difference.

One project that is particularly close to our hearts is the climate school team. Sustainability is close to our hearts and here we can actively contribute to making our school more environmentally friendly. For example, we are working on saving energy, providing regional and free fruit, separating waste better and launching sustainable projects. We are not alone in this - the school management, Ms. Grinszek-Kebsch and Mr. Müller, as well as committed teachers such as Ms. Clausnitzer, Ms. Fobe, Ms. Dörschel, Mr. Lorenz and Mr. Koitsch support us and help us to put our plans into practice.

It is simply fun to be at a school where we not only learn, but can also help shape things ourselves. We appreciate the open cooperation, the support from teachers and the opportunity to actively change our school. This is exactly what makes the Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium a special place for us."

"My colleagues are more than just colleagues - they are helpers, confidants, fellow sufferers, pranksters and friends! You look forward to seeing them every day!"

Ms. Sauer
Teacher

"In the 2023/2024 school year, I was given the honor of being elected liaison teacher by the representatives of the class representatives at Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium. I am also the head of the student council and I enjoy working with committed students on creative and school-promoting projects. I am also enthusiastic about illustrating and expanding lessons through visits to extracurricular places of learning. For example, I was able to take the sixth form on a trip to the EU institutions in Brussels, visit the memorial sites in Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Stasi prison in Bautzen and Stalag VIII in Zgorzelec with workshops, and organize various panel discussions on the state and federal elections.
For me, the work at the JCG is accompanied by the desire to accompany pupils in their (political and social) development and to see them grow into prudently critical and friendly personalities."

Our secondary school is a place of shared learning, characterized by motivation, commitment and diversity. We believe that learning happens most effectively in a supportive environment and through interaction. Through class music-making, regular projects such as Joliot-Curie Week and various traditions, we create opportunities to discover and develop the interests and talents of our student body. Our goal is to create a school community that treats each other with respect - a space where every student has the motivation to do their best.
