School enrollment 2025/2026

Dear parents and guardians,

Thank you for your interest in our grammar school. You are about to transfer to a secondary school. We would like to take this opportunity to provide you with important information on how to submit your application to our school.

Please drop your documents in the school's letterbox or send them by post to Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium, Wilhelmsplatz 5, 02826 Görlitzby March 7, 2025.

This includes

  1. the original of the educational recommendation grade 4 (in exceptional cases the documentation of the special educational counseling - as original)
  2. copies of the last annual report card and the last half-year report from the school previously attended
  3. a copy of the birth certificate or a corresponding proof of identity
  4. the completed application for admission, signed by both legal guardians, if you do not have an application for admission to the grammar school, you can find it here
  5. Proof of sole custody, if applicable
  6. if applicable, medical or psychological report/certificate, certificate of severe disability, notification of special educational needs, special educational report, development report or support plan - as a copy
  7. If applicable, declaration of bilingualism or multilingualism if the language of origin is not or not exclusively German
  8. Foreign language selection form - We ask all legal guardians to complete this form

On the way to the Abitur, pupils at a grammar school must learn two foreign languages. At our grammar school, English is the first foreign language from year 5 onwards. According to SOGYA §18 para. 4, the choice of the second foreign language takes place until the end of grade 5.
There is a special feature at our school in this regard. If your child would like to learn Latin as a second foreign language, this decision must be made at the time of registration. Pupils in the Latin class are taught Latin from Year 5 to Year 9 and are awarded the Latinum after successfully completing Year 9. From Year 10 onwards, these pupils will then study French until their Abitur. You can find the application form for foreign language learning here. This form then supplements the above-mentioned documents as no. 8.
All other children admitted to our school then make their final choice of foreign language during Year 5. There is a choice between French and Polish. There is no legal entitlement to lessons in a particular foreign language, see §18 Para. 4 SOGYA.

Further information, e.g. on the criteria-based selection procedure or on student admission without an educational recommendation, can be found in the annex Information on the admission procedure for Year 5 for the 2025/26 school year here.

All applications received by the closing date will be treated equally.

Please enclose an informal letter with the documents if you have any special circumstances regarding the application that you would like us to consider.

A decision on your application will not be made until May 2025. The decision will be sent to you by post on 16.05.2025.

If you are unable to submit your application by post, please make an appointment by telephone (03581 672640).

Yours sincerely

V. Grinszek-Kebsch
Headmistress
