"BERLIN, BERLIN - WE'RE GOING TO BERLIN!"
The girls from Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium Görlitz are going to the national finals in Berlin. On Tuesday, 12.03.2024, 10 "Görls" from the 5th and 6th grades of the Joliot-Curie-Gymnasium made their way to Pulsnitz. The state finals of the school sports competition "Jugend trainiert für Olympia" in the WK IV handball category took place there.
The "Görls" had already successfully won the regional finals in the run-up to this competition.
Now the four best schools from the Saxon cities of Görlitz, Heidenau, Markranstädt and Zwickau competed against each other on the pitch. The girls narrowly won their first match against Markranstädt by 9 goals to 8.

After this exciting handball thriller, the team continued with motivation against Heidenau. After a half-time score of 5 to 6 goals for Heidenau, the girls finally managed to turn the game around and win by 14 to 9 goals.
The final game against Zwickau decided who would win the tournament. Once again, the Görls showed strength, cohesion and fighting spirit and rightly came out on top with 15 goals to 10.
Even surprised by their victory and overjoyed, the "Görls" hugged each other and proudly accepted the trophy and thus also the ticket for the national final in Berlin. Another title also went to Görlitz, namely that of the most valuable player.
Now five exciting and thrilling days await the Saxon representatives and their coaches in Berlin, to whom a special THANK YOU goes at this point.
