Cutter race
A maritime highlight at the end of each school year is the traditional cutter race between the two Görlitz grammar schools. This day is all about nautical sports. A team of ten pupils from the respective final year rows the cutter over a distance set in Tauchritz harbor. They sit in pairs on the oars of the so-called ZK 10, two elaborately restored examples of this type of cutter, the "Jaguar" and the "Glück auf". The helmsman is an experienced cutter rower. Many pupils, active teachers and retired teachers from both schools meet in Tauchritz harbor for this event. With a stage program and plenty of maritime flair, the harbour area also attracts many guests from the region on this occasion. Find out more at www.kutterrennen.de.
